Breed History

Yorkie-Chon is a crossbreed from the United States and was supposedly first developed about 20 years ago. It came about as a result of a 50-50 percent mix of the Bichon Frise and Yorkshire Terrier, it is the most varying type of designer dog being a first-generation hybrid. The Yorkie-Chon has existed from the past few decades but only gained popularity about ten years ago.

Temperament

Although it is quite difficult to clearly state the temperament of the Yorkie-Chon being a crossbreed and inheriting traits from both parents, its temperament can be predicted depending on its dominant traits. It possesses a mild temperament and independent by nature, it is also a very aggressive barker. Yorkie-Chon loves to be in the midst of humans and is an attention seeker. On the other hand, it can also be stubborn and destructive.

Environment

Yorkie-Chon is suitable for apartment living and families with children can consider adopting this dog. Some bark a lot and this should be considered when going for a Yorkie-Chon but asides this, it adapts well to any living environment with moderate weather conditions depending on its coat, either silky like the Yorkie or curly and dense like the Bichon.

Exercise

Yorkie-Chon is a really active dog by nature and does not require strenuous exercise because it burns a lot of calories on its own by staying active. It should be allowed to play around freely indoors. Just a medium amount of exercise routine daily is all it requires.

Grooming

Yorkie-Chon’s fur should be brushed regularly with a grooming brush in order to avoid matting and also pick up loose hairs that can be shed on the floor. The puppy should also be shampooed on a monthly basis but not in excess as over-shampooing can result in drying out of natural oils. Special attention should be paid to areas behind its ears in order to avoid fur mats. Nails should also be clipped monthly and teeth brushed once a week; in addition, its ears should be cleaned on a regular basis in order to avoid infections.
