1. The Great Getaway

We have to let you know upfront that Shiba Inu puppies will try (and many have been successful) to escape. There have been plenty of owners who have left their pups outside for some time thinking they’re just playing and come back to find them missing! These pups are little escape artists, and they must be leashed and secured when they’re outside, or they will get away.

2. They’re The Aggressor

They’re gorgeous to look at, no doubt. They are harmless to people, but there are corroborated reports of Shiba Inu puppies who have been aggressive toward cats and other small pets in the home. They would be best suited in homes where there are no other pets.

3. They Don’t Bark

Shiba Inu puppies don’t bark even if they see something suspicious or abnormal. They make sounds, but barking isn’t one of them.

4. They Are Runners

Shibas are extremely agile and can run tirelessly. Remember we mentioned that they’re also escape artists? Well, forget about chasing them on foot, because they are natural born runners! They also have a very high prey drive, which means they will track something small as long as they can.

5. They Aren’t Loners

Don’t leave your Shiba Inu puppies alone for long periods of time because they suffer from separation anxiety. They don’t necessarily whine, but they demonstrate destructive behavior. When able to, exercise your pup for as long as possible before you leave home.

6. They Are Possessive

Shiba Inu puppies should be trained very early on in their lives. Shibas are widely known to be possessive of their food and toys. Little children should always be supervised carefully around a Shiba and taught never to snatch the dog’s toys away.

7. They Are Extremely Clean

Shiba Inus are also well known for their cleanliness. They groom themselves (and other dogs in the household) incessantly. You needn’t worry much about housebreaking them, because of their hygiene, they’re on top of this task!
