We know, we know…just about everyone loves puppies!
It’s been scientifically proven that they lift moods and make people generally feel happy. Our puppies for sale are no exception and because we love puppies so much, we have dedicated this blog to them! Take a look at these 5 facts that we think everyone should know about these furry babies!
1. Did you know that the word “puppy” has French roots?
Some say the word puppy derives from poupeé, which is a French word that means doll or toy. The word puppy actually didn’t enter the English language until the late 16th century. Prior to that, baby puppies were referred to as whelps.
2. Did you know that puppies have baby teeth too?
Just like many other newborn mammals, puppies are born completely toothless. It’s not until they’re around 2 to 4 weeks of old that their 28 baby teeth will start to come in. Around 12 to 16 weeks old, those baby teeth will fall out, and by the time they reach 6 months, they should have 42 adult teeth.
3. Did you know that puppies like “baby talk” more than their parents?
Just like with humans, puppies seem to grow out of baby talk based on recent research. As part of a 2017 study, 30 women were asked to look at various pictures of people and dogs and repeated pre-written lines like: “Hi! Hello cutie! Who’s a good boy? Come here! Good boy!” When they did, it was spoken in a higher register, i.e. baby talk. These recordings were later played for 10 adult dogs and 10 puppies and almost all of the puppies started running towards the speakers when they heard the baby talk! How adorable is that?
4. Did you know that some breeds are typically born by c-section?
There are some puppies for sale that are born with extreme body proportions, which can make it very difficult to have a natural birth. Take for instance the English Bulldog and the French Bulldog. Their heads are simply too large and c-sections are the only way these little beauties are born.
5. Did you know that puppies are born blind and deaf?
When they are first born, their eyes are firmly shut and their ear canals are closed making them functionally deaf and blind for about the first few weeks of life. After that, they begin to open their eyes and their hearing is more developed!
